Public Lecture: Driving Growth and Excellence in Mathematical Sciences, Research, and Innovation
Prof Maggie Aphane is the head of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics department at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University, South Africa. She is an Associate Professor in Mathematics specializing in Topology. She is currently supervising 10 PhD students, 4 Masters students. She successfully graduated 2 PhD’s and 10 Masters students. She had a privilege to supervise and host four postdoctoral. She is actively participating in esteemed committees such as (COE-MASS) Centre of Excellence in Mathematical and Statistical Sciences, (SAMS) South African Mathematical Society, ( IMSA) Institute for Mathematical Sciences and Applications, (NSTF) National Science and Technology Forum, ( NITheCS) National Institute for Theoretical and Computational Sciences.
She has an h-index of 12 and i10-index of 13 in Google scholar, 11 h-index on Research Gate. She is a reviewer in some journals and National Research Funds (NrF). In collaborations with other universities, she has successfully generated funds for various project including 300 million to build Centre for entrepreneurship Rapid Incubator, 660 million for the Preparedness and Prevention of Pandemic⁴, 10 million for National Graduate Academy for Mathematics and Statistics initiatives. She was honoured with some remarkable awards such as: The Best Female Researcher in 2023, The Best-Established Researcher in 2022.
